MultCloud provides Cloud Transfer and Cloud Sync methods to transfer data. Both of them could help you transfer data between clouds. But there are also some difference between transfer and sync tasks.
Differences in ways to create tasks
Select source:
Transfer tasks support selecting multiple clouds or multiple files/folders under the cloud as the source.
Sync tasks only allow to select a single folder as the source.
Select destination:
Transfer tasks only support select one cloud or single folder under a cloud as the destination.
Sync tasks allow to select multiple clouds or multiple folders under clouds as the destination.
Differences in execution results
For folder transfer and sync, the transfer task will copy the entire folder, and the sync task will copy the files under the folder.
Transfer task:
For example, to create a transfer task from Google Drive/A to Onedrive/B, the transfer task will copy the entire A folder to Onedrive/B, the result is Onedrive/B/A.
Sync task:
The sync task will only copy the files in folder A to Onedrive/B.
Note: The transfer task supports selecting a single file to transfer, and the file will be copied directly to the selected destination path.
Difference in the settings
Transfer task:
If the source and destination have the same file, the transfer task setting supports: skip, overwrite... etc. The same file will be processed according to the selected method.
Skip the file. (When you do not want to transfer the same name of the source files to target directory, you could tick this option.)
Overwrite if source newer. (This option will overwrite the old date of the files on target directory to save the new date of the files.)
Overwrite if different size. (The source file will overwrite the file in the target directory, no matter which one is larger or smaller.)
Overwrite if different size or source newer. (The target files will be overwrite when the time or size is different.)
Always overwrite. (The target files always be overwritten.)
Always rename the file. (The target file always be rename.)
Sync task:
The sync task will skip the same files by default and will not synchronize. There are multiple sync methods for the Cloud Sync function, and the execution result of each method is different. For details, please click here.
Summary
Both transfer and sync methods can help copy data between clouds, and support schedule transfer/sync added, modified, and deleted data.
In some cases, Cloud Transfer and Simple Sync can achieve the same result. For example, there is a folder A under both Google Drive and OneDrive. For transfer task, select Google Drive/A to transfer to OneDrive. For simple-sync task, select Google Drive/A to sync to OneDrive/A. In this way, both transfer and sync methods are the same.
