User Case: Embedding Stream Videos (SharePoint) into Microsoft Teams

My goal is to incorporate Microsoft Stream videos into my Microsoft Teams group so that participants can view them without having to download them. I've set the videos to “Restricted View” on SharePoint at the moment, but this has made it impossible for team members to watch the videos directly in Teams; instead, they must go to Stream using a shared link, which regrettably allows them to share the content with people outside the group. It appears that I must also allow downloading if I grant direct access for in-app viewing in Teams, which is not ideal.

Are you confused about how to share SharePoint video in Teams? There are 5 solutions you can use to solve your problem, whether you want to share with a link, without a downloading permission, with external users, or on the Stream or SharePoint page.

How to Share SharePoint Video in Teams

To meet your different needs, there are 5 ways you can choose from, including how to share with external users via MultCloud, share videos from the Stream or SharePoint page to Teams with the share button, embed SharePoint videos into Teams, and share during a Teams meeting.

Way 1. Share SharePoint Video with External Users via MultCloud

If you want to share SharePoint videos or files with users who do not have a SharePoint account, MultCloud is a considerable helper. MultCloud is an online cloud management service that not only allows you to use its easy Share function to share the SharePoint files, but is also available for OneDrive, Google Drive, iCloud Drive, Dropbox, Amazon S3, and other 30 + cloud storage services.

Step 1. Go to the MultCloud website and sign up for a free account.

Step 2. Click “Add Cloud” and the SharePoint Online logo to add your SharePoint account to MultCloud.

When others get your shared link, they can download the video for viewing. If they also have a MultCloud account, they can directly save this video to their cloud drives. Except for sharing files with others, the MultCloud Share function is also equipped with the file request feature, which helps when you want others to upload files to your SharePoint folder without an account.

Way 2. Share Videos from Stream to Microsoft Teams

Step 1. Go to SharePoint and log in to your account.

Step 2. Click the 9-dot icon in the top left corner and choose “Stream”. If you do not see the Stream icon, click “More Apps” and find it there.

Way 5. Share SharePoint Video During Teams Meeting

Step 1. During a Teams meeting, click the "Share" button (usually a rectangle with an upward arrow).

Step 2. Look for an option like "Browse" or "Window". Depending on how you're accessing the video:

  • If the video is open on your computer: Select the window where the video is playing.
  • If you want to share the video file directly: Look for an option to share a file (this might open your file explorer, where you can navigate to the video on your local drive). Keep in mind that sharing a local file might not provide the same streaming experience as sharing from SharePoint.

Step 3. Choose the video or the window and click "Share".

Conclusion

Now, you do not need to worry about how to share SharePoint video in Teams since you have 5 choices shown above. If you prefer direct sharing, embedding the SharePoint Videos folder into a Teams channel seems a better way compared to others. Otherwise, if you want a way that share files from various cloud drives, using MultCloud Share can be taken into consideration.

What’s more, if you are using multiple clouds and have the demand to transfer, sync, or back up files between SharePoint and other clouds, MultCloud Cloud Transfer, Cloud Sync, and Cloud Backup will not let you regret using them.
