User Case: Upload Files to My Google Drive via Link
I would like several people to add images and videos to my Google Drive. In order to process footage for clients, I have 4+ TB in my business account. Usually, I'm the only one using the account, but this time, I had more than 20 people taking photos and videos for me to process.
How can I let people upload their videos to my drive (using a link rather than an email invitation) and let Google Drive use my 4 TB?
- Question from Google Drive Help
This post will give 3 ways to let Google Drive allow others to upload: Google Drive shared folder, Google Forms, and MultCloud Share. All of them request files via a link. However, the Google Drive shared folder solution will use the uploaderâs storage quota, not yours. Therefore, if you want others to upload with a link and the files count against your storage, choose from Google Forms and MultCloud Share.
Google Drive Allow Others to Upload via Google Solutions
The traditional ways to allow others to upload files to your Google Drive is using the Google Drive shared folder and Google Forms. Both ways are free to try and you can see the specific steps below.
Way 1. Upload to Google Drive Shared Folder
Using the Google Drive shared folder is always the first way that comes to your mind. However, it is not the best one. If you do not have other demands but only want to collect files from other Google Drive users, you can follow these steps:
Step 1. Go to the Google Drive website and log in to your account.
Step 2. Choose a folder that you want others to upload to and right-click on it. Then, choose âShareâ > âShareâ.
Step 3. Give the âEditorâ permission to the people who you want to upload files. Then, copy the shared link and send it to others.
Notes:
- People who have the âEditorâ permission can not only upload files to your folder but also delete files in this folder.
- Besides, as mentioned above, this way will use the uploaderâs storage and need them to have a Google Drive account.
- Also, the uploaders can see othersâ files.
Way 2. Upload to Google Forms
If you want to allow others to upload to Google Drive without a Google account and use your Google Drive storage, Google Forms will be a good tool. Moreover, they cannot see otherâs files.
Step 1. Go to Google Forms and create a blank form.
Step 2. Extend the âMultiple choiceâ option and choose âFile uploadâ. Then, read the notice and click âContinueâ.
Step 3. Name the form and set the restrictions of numbers and file size of the uploading files if you need that.
Step 4. Click the âPublishâ button in the upper-right corner to publish this form. Then, press the link-like icon in the upper task bar to copy the shared link.
