Clearing YouTube Cache Matters A Lot for Performance

Clear Cache

Over time, YouTube accumulates temporary files, cookies, and browsing history, which can clutter the cache and slow down the app's performance. This can lead to various issues such as:

  • Longer loading times: Videos may take longer to load or buffer frequently.
  • Playback errors: You may encounter unexpected errors or interruptions during video playback.
  • App crashes: In severe cases, a cluttered cache can cause the YouTube app to crash or freeze.

By clearing the cache, you're essentially removing these temporary files and allowing the app to run more efficiently.

How to Clear YouTube Cache on Android Devices

Step 1. Access Device Settings: Go to your device's Settings app.

Step 2. Navigate to Apps or App Manager: Look for an option like "Apps," "App Manager," or a similar name.

Step 3. Find YouTube: Locate the YouTube app in the list of installed apps.

Step 4. Clear Cache and Data: Tap on "Storage & cache" and then select "Clear cache" to remove temporary files. To completely reset the app, you can also choose "Clear storage," but this will remove all app data, including saved playlists and watch history.

How to Clear YouTube Cache on iPhone

Unfortunately, Apple doesn't offer a one-tap method for clearing an app's cache in the same way as you can do on Android, but deleting the app and reinstalling it can achieve the similar effects.

Remove YouTube App

If you don't want to walk through the uninstalling and reinstalling YouTube app from scratch, you can clear the cache on your iOS device by offloading the app. Follow these steps:

Step 1. Navigate to ‘Settings’ on your iPhone.

Step 2. Tap "General">"iPhone Storage."

Step 3. Locate and tap on "YouTube" in the App list.

Step 4. Tap "Offload App."

Step 5. Confirm by tapping "Offload App" again.

Note: This method will free up storage space used by "YouTube,"  including some cache files. However, it does not clear the cache completely. If the caches have slowed down your app performance and the offloading does not make a significant difference, consider deleting the app and reinstalling it as we recommended earlier.
