How to Comment on YouTube Videos

YouTube offers a platform for users to interact with creators and other viewers through comments. By leaving comments, you can share your thoughts, ask questions, and engage in discussions with others. This can enhance your viewing experience and help you connect with like-minded individuals.

Steps to Post a YouTube Comment

Step 1. Navigate to the Video: Find the video you want to comment on and click on it to play. The video will start playing, and you'll see the comments section below it.

Step 2. Locate the Comment Section: Scroll down below the video to find the comment section. It will typically be below the video's description and be labeled "Comments."

Step 3. Type Your Comment: Click in the text box provided and start typing your comment. You can express your thoughts, ask questions, or respond to other comments.

Step 4. Post Your Comment: Once you're satisfied with your comment, click the "Comment" button to publish it. Your comment will appear in the comment section for others to see.

If you want to reply to a specific comment, click on the "Reply" button beneath it. This will create a new comment thread, and your reply will appear below the original comment.

How to Manage Comment Settings and Visibility?

YouTube provides options to manage your comment settings and visibility. This allows you to control who can see and reply to your comments, and it can help you maintain a positive and respectful commenting environment.

Part 1. Channel-Level Settings

First, you can make a channel-level comment setting change, which will apply to all the videos in the channel.

Step 1. Go to your YouTube Studio.

Step 2. In the left menu, click on "Setting".

Step 3. Navigate to "Community" and then "Default" in the new pop-out window.

Step 4. Here you can choose turn on or turn off the comments on your videos.

When you choose to turn comments “Off”, viewers can’t comment on the video. They’ll see a message letting them know that comments have been turned off.

When you choose to turn comments "On", you have 4 different "Comment moderationoptions to choose if the comments will  be held for review:

  • None: Don’t hold any comments.
  • Basic: Hold potentially inappropriate comments.
  • Strict: Hold a broader range of potentially inappropriate comments.
  • Hold all: Hold all comments.

Step 5. Finally, click on "Save".

Part 2. Video-Level Settings

If you want to enable or disable comments for individual videos, you can do as follow:

Step 1. Go to your Channel Content. In the "Video" tab, tick the box in front of the video you want to change the comment setting.

Step 4. Choose "On", "Pause" or "Off" as you like.

★Note:
When you choose the "Pause" option, you’ll keep your existing comments, but you won’t receive any more on that video until you turn comments back on. 

How to Make a Comment on a YouTube Video Invisible

While you can't directly make a specific comment invisible, you can delete it or block the user who posted it. This can be helpful if you encounter offensive or unwanted comments.

Control Comment Visibility on Your YouTube Channel

1. Deleting Comments: Locate the comment you want to delete, click on the three dots next to it, and select "Remove." This will remove the comment from the video and prevent others from seeing it.

2. Blocking Users: If you're receiving unwanted or offensive comments from a particular user, you can block them. This will prevent them from commenting on your videos or channel. To block a user, find their comment, click on the three dots next to it, and select "Hide user from channel."
