From a technical expert's perspective, Google Drive and Google Photos are indeed separate services.

Google Photos is a service developed by Google for sharing and storing photos. It automatically analyzes images to identify various elements and themes. Users can search for specific items in their photos, categorized under people, places, and things.

On the other hand, Google Drive is a cloud storage platform for organizing files, including those created in Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides, as well as external files uploaded to the platform.

In the past, Google Photos and Google Drive were connected, allowing users to browse all their photos and videos from Google Drive's "Google Photos" folder. However, this link was broken in July 2019.

Now, new photos and videos added to Google Photos will not automatically appear in the Google Photos folder within Google Drive, and vice versa. Any files uploaded to Google Drive will no longer show up in Google Photos. Deleting a file from one platform won't remove it from the other, making the transition process smoother.

The automatic connection between the two services has been discontinued. If you use Google Photos, it's now the only place to find your photos and videos. Although you still have 15GB of free space with your Google Account, this capacity is shared among Google Photos, Google Drive, and Gmail.

If you still want to connect Google Photos and Google Drive and realize photo synchronization, you can seek the help of MultCloud, a professional cloud sync tool. This tool can not only connect multiple cloud accounts, but also synchronize the data in the accounts in real-time.
